What else is there to say about the marvelous pies found at Ms. Lena's in DeValls Bluff? Actually, quite a bit. Viv Barnhill's still making pies, but so is her daughter Kim -- and quite well, we have to say.
Saturday mornings are fried pie times -- but there are almost always whole pies to be had. And the best one is the one that combines two of the favorite flavors in an excellent way.
That's the coconut meringue, chocolate meringue half-and-half. It's a chocolate custard pie with a traditional meringue on one side, and a coconut meringue with coconut custard underneath on the other. It's the best of both worlds, and it's phenomenal.
