Half-and-half minis.

In the book, we talk about Rhoda Adams of Rhoda's Famous Hot Tamales in Lake Village.  Pie is a calling with her.

What we failed to mention was that she's one heck of a saleswoman.  On our most recent visit, not only did she encourage us to have a full lunch, but she convinced us to have both a coconut meringue mini-pie and a full size half-and-half sweet potato and pecan pie.  Which we were proud to go home with.

The mini-pies are a delicious bargain -- a dollar for a three inch round containing one of her signature pie flavors.  They range from coconut and chocolate meringue to lemon meringue and lemon icebox -- and of course sweet potato and pecan.  It is the half-and-half miniature version we laud today... a masterful gift of two flavors in a single tiny pie crust, a yin/yang of Southern perfection.  She pours those batters by hand and still manages to make a perfect division on every one.

Oh, and in case we forgot to mention it -- Rhoda also has the local angle on fried pies.  No joke.

Far more about the pies here at Tie Dye Travels -- and even more in the book, of course.
