Coconut meringue pie.

There's rarely a time the Bulldog Restaurant in Bald Knob isn't busy... unless you count when it's closed. The popular drive-in has been serving up square-patty burgers, fries, shakes and a famed strawberry shortcake to generations.

When you go to order at the counter, look to the left. There's a window into the kitchen, and on that window you'll see whatever pie is available that day. If you are lucky, it's a coconut meringue pie, and it rivals even that shortcake in sheer goodness.

Within that blind-baked flour pastry crust, you'll dive into a creamy yet not-too-sweet custard speckled with flakes of soft coconut, yellow and packed under an almost crusty light coconut-topped toasted bubble-heavy meringue. It is marvelous.

It's been around for around 40 years already... and it's still the sort of place where everyone congregates after a football game or a festival.
